TRAVEL ITINERARY:
Day 1: ROME – NAPLES – POMPEII – SORRENTO
Arrive at your designated meeting point in central Rome in the early morning and leave for Naples via motor coach. Once you are in Naples, a local guide will show you around this ancient city filled with astounding history. During your exploration of Naples, you will see the central district, starting with the wide-open neoclassical Piazza del Plebiscito. Other stops include the magnificent Gallery of Umberto I, with its 184 foot tall arching dome of glass, as well as the regal grandeur of the San Carlo Opera House and the architectural beauty of the Royal Palace. Naples' city center is the largest in Europe and has a history that spans back 27 centuries, resulting in a city that is filled with beautiful works of art and stately architecture. As if that were not enough, Naples is also where pizza was invented, and locals take great pride in their handcrafted pizzas. After your stop in Naples, you will head to Pompeii where you will experience a brief stop at a coral and cameo factory. Sit down for lunch in a quaint restaurant to experience the area's cuisine. After lunch you will be able to explore the excavations of the Ancient Roman Township. Pompeii is one of the towns that was wiped out by Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., a volcano that smothered Pompeii and the surrounding area in several feet of ash and stone. The town and its inhabitants were preserved by the ash following the disaster, giving the entire area an eerie feel. After your stop in Pompeii, you will continue to Sorrento, a small, picturesque town located on the beautiful Sorrentine Peninsula just off the Bay of Naples, offering plenty of picturesque views for visitors. It is also well known for its orange, lemon and olive tree groves, which impart a pleasant aroma throughout the area. Once in Sorrento, sit down for a pleasant dinner at the hotel before turning in for the night.
Day 2: SORRENTO – CAPRI – ROME
Begin the day with a buffet breakfast before leaving for Capri. To reach the island of Capri, you will ride the ferry across the bay before pulling into Marina Grande, the island's main port. Capri has been a popular resort since the apex of the Roman Empire, attracting the wealthy and powerful from around the world. The island holds many natural beauties that you will see, including the pristine Blue Grotto, if weather and sea conditions permit access. The Blue Grotto is a sea cave that allows just enough sunlight to hit the water and bathe the entire interior in a soothing blue glow. The Gardens of Augustus will offer breathtaking panoramic views of turquoise water and the Faraglioni rocks. The Piazzetta, Capri’s main square, offers beautiful views beyond the majestic clock tower and is considered to be the heart of Capri. For lunch, you will travel to Anacapri via minibus. Following lunch, return to Marina Grande where you will ride the ferry back to Sorrento, before departing for Rome. Arrival in Rome later in the evening around 9:00 p.m. and upon arrival in Rome the tour and our services will end.
Please note: For your own comfort, we suggest you do not bring heavy or bulky luggage, as you'll have to carry it with you from the port in Sorrento to the luggage storage in Capri, and vice versa.
