TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Parma, Bologna, San Marino, Pesaro, Ancona, Urbino, Ravenna
TRAVEL ITINERARY:
DAY 1: MILAN, PARMA, BOLOGNA
Meet and greet with your tour group this morning in Milan's city center and depart to Emilia Romagna, a region famous for its artistic culture, culinary traditions and eminent car manufacturers including Ferrari and Lamborghini. Arrival in Parma, well-known among foreigners for its delicious “Prosciutto di Parma” and “Parmigiano Reggiano” cheese, though the town's scenery and remarkable artistic heritage will not disappoint either. Discover the pearls of Parma's historic center and admire the Teatro Regio (Royal Theater), the Cathedral and stunning medieval Baptistery and many historic palaces including the Palazzo della Pilotta. Time at leisure for lunch before departing to Bologna. Capital of the region and synonymous with art and culture, Bologna is recognized as a “UNESCO creative City of Music” and is home to the oldest university in the world. In the city center surrounded by medieval palaces, you will visit the impressive Basilica of St. Petronius and Bologna's very own leaning towers: Torre degli Asinelli and Torre Garisenda. Take in the art, taste as much food as you can and then overnight at the hotel.
DAY 2: BOLOGNA, SAN MARINO, PESARO, ANCONA
Breakfast at the hotel followed by departure to San Marino. As the oldest surviving sovereign republic in Europe, San Marino is a small, independent country within the Italian Peninsula. The mountainous landscape provides for breathtaking panoramic views and among its historical treasures are the three towers located on the peaks of Mount Titano, which have become a symbol of the country. Time at leisure for lunch followed by afternoon departure to Pesaro. Located in one of Italy’s most geographically beautiful regions, Marche, the seaside city of Pesaro has a charming historic center with attractive Renaissance sites like the Palazzo Ducale (Ducal Palace), Piazza del Popolo and the magnificent Rocca Costanza Castle. Continue to Ancona for an overnight stay.
DAY 3: ANCONA, URBINO, RAVENNA
Breakfast at the hotel and then spend the morning discovering Ancona, the capital of the Marche region. This port city first founded by the Greeks and later developed by the Romans is home to fascinating sites like the Arch of Trajan, the Ancona Cathedral and the Lazaretto of Ancona, which was constructed on an artificial island as a quarantine station then converted into a museum. Proceed to the enchanting hilltop town of Urbino where you will have time at leisure for lunch. You will visit its historical center, a UNESCO world heritage site due to its impressive Renaissance architecture like the Palazzo Ducale, the house of Raphael and the Cathedral. Continue to Ravenna for an overnight stay.
DAY 4: RAVENNA, MILAN
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a tour of this beautiful city. Its ancient Eastern heritage has left its biggest mark in its churches, baptisteries and mausoleums decorated with the most impressive Byzantine mosaic art which has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
