While in Bologna, you will spend your time in the very heart of the city, exploring Piazza Maggiore and the Basilica of San Petronio, with a unique facade that was never completed. Afterwards you will continue on to Maranello, a small town in the province of Modena that is home to the Ferrari racing team. While in Maranello, you will visit the Ferrari Museum where you will have the chance to admire the Ferrari models and other racing memorabilia on display as well as step behind the virtual wheel and try out the racing simulator. Your Bologna and Maranello with Ferrari Museum shore excursion begins by meeting with your tour guide after arriving in port. You'll board a motor coach and travel to the city center of Bologna, where you'll stop in the expansive main square, Piazza Maggiore, taking in a number of sights including the public palaces Palazzo del Podesta and Palazzo d'Accursio. Cross the square to visit the Basilica of San Petronio, a massive church dedicated to the patron Saint of Bologna, Saint Petronius. Admire the Grand Doorway designed by Jacopo della Quercia then marvel at the treasures held inside the main altar and the numerous chapels. Next, pay a visit to the Palace of Archiginasio (the University of Bologna's first permanent seat). You'll have free time here to grab lunch, before transferring to Maranello to see the city and visit the Ferrari Museum. In addition to showcasing various Ferrari models, trophies and other racing memorabilia, the museum hosts interactive exhibits and a racing simulator (optional activity, not included). Once you finish at the Ferrari Museum, you will return to the cruise terminal and board your ship.
