Day 1
ROME, NAPLES, POMPEI, SORRENTO
Grandeur, Streets Frozen in Time and Citrus Nights
Start early by meeting at your designated point in central Rome at 7:30 AM, or—depending on your hotel location—prepare for pick-up between 6:45 and 7:15 AM. Travel by coach to Naples with your English-speaking or multilingual tour leader, then explore the city with a local guide. Naples’ historic center is the largest in Europe and one of the richest in history, shaped over 27 centuries and especially influenced by the Renaissance and Enlightenment eras. During your visit, admire the wide-open Piazza del Plebiscito, the magnificent Galleria Umberto I with its soaring glass dome, the regal San Carlo Opera House, and the Royal Palace—an impressive snapshot of Naples’ artistic and architectural power. And of course, this is the birthplace of pizza, where chefs still perfect the craft today.
Continue to Pompeii, pausing briefly at a coral and cameo factory before sitting down for lunch in a quaint local restaurant. After lunch, visit the excavations of Pompeii—an ancient Roman town smothered by Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and preserved under meters of ash and stone, creating an unforgettable, haunting sense of time suspended. Then travel onward to Sorrento, a picturesque town above the Bay of Naples, known for its orange, lemon, and olive groves that perfume the air. Enjoy dinner at your hotel and settle in for the night.
Day 2
SORRENTO, CAPRI, ROME
Blue Grotto Dreams, Rome After Dark
After a buffet breakfast, depart around 9:15 AM and cross the bay by ferry to Marina Grande on Capri—an island that has drawn the wealthy and powerful since the height of the Roman Empire. Discover Capri’s natural beauty, including the famous Blue Grotto if weather permits, where sunlight transforms the sea cave into a luminous blue chamber. Take in sweeping views from the Gardens of Augustus, with turquoise waters and the iconic Faraglioni rock formations, and enjoy time in the Piazzetta, Capri’s beloved main square set near the clock tower.
For lunch, travel by minibus to Anacapri, then return to Marina Grande for the ferry back to Sorrento. Continue onward to Rome, with arrival expected around 9:00 PM depending on traffic. Please note: dinner and hotel accommodations are not included this evening.
