Travel Guide & Information of Cinque Terre Liguria Italy Photo Gallery Rapallo Rapallo Cinque Terre Cinque Terre Portofino Genoa

This description page of Cinque Terre, in the Italian region of Liguria, will guide you in planning your trip to Italy and help you find useful travel information about this Italian city.

A corner of Liguria, from Punta Mesco e Punta Manara, where generations, over the centuries, through constant collective work, man has managed to create and shape this unique and marvelous landscape architecture represented by the steep terraces sloping down to the sea. Held up by over 7000 km of dry stone walling, cleverly built without any kind of cement and cultivated as vineyards.

WLIG5TERRE30.JPGThe Cinque Terre, representing one of the best preserved natural area of the Mediterranean, recognized by the Unesco “Mankind’s World Heritage”, are today a National Park and Protected Marine Area with the aim of protecting not only the environment safety but also its great cultural heritage.

The name Cinque Terre (five lands) comes from the number of the small villages settled here: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

WLIG5TERRE01.jpgThe peculiarity of these charming and old villages is the past and peace dimension: no traffic, no cars, no tourist facilities, but the rich ancient traditions and the warm hospitality of their inhabitants.

The best way to discover, to understand and enjoy the Cinque Terre is to visit it on foot. Along the paths and the centuries old flights of steps, which up to a short while ago were the only communication routes between the five villages, you come under the magic of this landscape and its panoramas suspended between sky and sea: the terraced vineyards, alternated with strips of olive trees and the wild Mediterranean bush, mixing with high cliffs reaching down into the cobalt blue depths of the sea and hiding minute shingle beaches.
