Aosta, the regional capital of the Valle d’Aosta, is situated in a fertile alpine basin surrounded by the high peaks of the Mount Emilius, the Becca di Viou and the Becca di Nona. It has a rich ancient heritage, with Roman buildings and the medieval castles and has changed little since the ancient Augusta Praetoria, the first roman settlement.

Aosta is also an important center for the traffic of international commerce thanks to its strategic position on the main routes which link Italy to France and Switzerland.
