The Langhe area, situated in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, offers lush hill country, impressive wine-making traditions and a delicious cuisine based on fresh local staples. During this 4 day independent itinerary, curious travelers will explore the Langhe area's most iconic towns behind the wheel of their rental car. Along the way there will be the opportunity to sample some of the region's best wines including Barolo, Barbera and Nebbiolo. There will also be plenty of historical sites to admire including the Barolo Castle, wine museums and the Grinzane Cavour Castle. If you are a wine-lover seeking a unique off-the-beaten path vacation, look no further than the Langhe area!
Day 1: PIEDMONT, LANGHE REGION, POLLENZO
Arrival on your own in Pollenzo and check in at the hotel, located in the Langhe area, in the heart of Piedmont not far from Alba. Settle in and then you will have time on your own to relax or visit the beautiful center of quaint Pollenzo. Enjoy a welcome drink and a guided wine tasting at the "Wine bank" of the hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: ALBA, BAROLO CASTLE with wine tasting, LA MORRA
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure with your rental car for Alba and time on your own to discover the beautiful center of this elegant town and do some shopping. Lunch on your own at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, drive to Barolo and enjoy a guided wine tasting at the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo located inside the beautiful Marchesi di Barolo Castle. After the visit and the tasting, free time to stroll in Barolo. We suggest spending the rest of the afternoon in La Morra, not far from Barolo, and visit the interesting wine museum located in the center of the town. Head back to your hotel in Pollenzo later in the afternoon. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: LANGHE REGION, MONFORTE D’ALBA, SERRALUNGA D’ALBA, CASTLE OF GRINZANE DI CAVOUR and more
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we recommend you continue to explore the Lange Region at your own pace. Get behind the wheel of your rental car and drive through the hill villages of Monforte d'Alba and Roddino then turn along the small carriage road to Serralunga d'Alba with its beautiful castle. Here it will be possible to have a guided wine tasting at Tenimenti di Barolo and Fontanafredda, where you can discover great local wines. Lunch on your own along the way in one of many nice restaurants. Then head down to Sorano and Gallo d'Alba followed by a visit to the characteristic Castle of Grinzane Cavour, the 13th century manor house that was home to the famous statesman, Camilo Benso the Count of Cavour, and which houses the Cavour Literary Prize. Time on your own for visiting the castle then return to Pollenzo later in the afternoon. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at your hotel accommodation.
Day 4: POLLENZO
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and end of our services.
