Agrigento Things to Do
When people vacation in Italy and are staying in Agrigento, they want to be able to enjoy all that the area has to offer. Those who are visiting the city will be happy to know that they can see and do quite a few different things while they are there.
Visiting the beautiful and preserved Greek temples is always a nice choice, and should certainly be a part of anyone’s visit. However, the temples, as popular as they are, are not the only things that the town offers. Visitors will find that the city has events and festivals held at different times of the year. One of the most popular takes place in early February and is called the Almond Blossom Festival. The festival, held in the Valley of the Temples, features parades, shows, music, dancing, traditional costumes, and much more.
Another festival in February is the Carnival of Sciacca, which features a parade that occurs every day from Saturday to Tuesday. The King of the Carnival of Sciacca offers wine, candy, and sausage to the assemblage from the Peppe Nappa wagon. Moving on to July, we come upon another festival – the Festival of San Calogero, the Black Saint. This 8-day festival goes from the first Sunday to the second Sunday in July. This festival remembers the presence of the Arab occupiers on the island, and it features a procession of saints. In the beginning of December, people in the area celebrate Pirandello Week. Pirandello was an important Italian writer, and it is quite popular amongst students.
Visitors on their trip to Sicily will find that Agrigento always offers something fun to see and do.
