The gastronomy finds its basis on typical and genuine products such as zucchini, caciocavallo and sausages.
Soups, typical dishes of this area, are very famous and they are prepared according to the traditional recipes. Soups are cooked using the wide variety of legumes cultivated in this zone such as: lentils, beans and chickpeas.
However the main dish of Campobasso is the Caponata, it is a typical dish prepared dipping a great biscuit made of wheat flour called Tarallo into water and vinegar and stewing it with tomatoes, celery, pepper, anchovies, black olives and hardboiled eggs.
Campobasso is located between the Bifeno and the Fortore valleys and there is a suitable climate to cultivate grapevines to make good red, white and rose' wine.
