TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Cagliari, Nuraghe, Rome
Day 01: OUT-BOUND FLIGHT
Board your flight and begin your Italian adventure!
Day 02: ROME
After landing in Rome Airport, head to the historical center of Rome and spend the day exploring the Eternal City. Follow in the footsteps of the Ancient Romans as you delve into the many diverse layers of Rome’s past. Snap a photo of the Colosseum, admire the art and archeological treasures of the Capitoline Museums, or toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain — the choice is yours!
In the evening, dine with the Romans at a family-owned restaurant. Do not miss your chance to taste one of Rome’s legendary pasta dishes, such as carbonara or cacio e pepe. Afterwards, settle in for the night at your Rome hotel.
Day 03: CAGLIARI
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then board your morning flight to Cagliari. Upon arrival, head to your hotel in the historic city center. After dropping off your luggage, begin exploring the capital of Sardinia. Start in the Castello district, which is located on a hill and enclosed by medieval walls. Must-sees include the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and Santa Cecilia, the Torre dell’Elefante, and the Roman Amphitheater that dates back to the second century AD.
After a nice stroll through the city center, break for lunch and take this opportunity to try a local specialty, such as malloreddus pasta. In the afternoon, consider visiting the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, or the National Archeology Museum. This is an excellent place to delve into Sardinia’s rich past, from prehistory to the Byzantine period. The museum is revered for its prehistoric bronze statues, gold from Carthage, Roman ceramics, and more.
After exploring to your heart’s content, conclude your day with an authentic dinner at a local restaurant before spending the night at your hotel.
Day 04: CAGLIARI
Take it easy today. After a leisurely breakfast, travel to one of the nearby beaches to soak up the sun and take advantage of Sardinia’s natural beauty. With white sand and crystal blue water, Sardinia’s beaches are considered to be among the most beautiful in all of Italy. From popular public beaches, such as Poetto Beach, to secluded coves, there is something for everyone.
Alternatively, travelers may wish to visit one of the nearby wildlife reserves or bird sanctuaries. One example is the Parco Natural Regionale Molentargius-Saline, which is revered for its flamingoes. No matter how you choose to spend your day, be sure to admire one of Sardinia’s legendary sunsets over the beach. After admiring the colorful hues, savor the unique local flavors during dinner followed by an overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 05: NURAGHE
Once you finish breakfast, depart on a special excursion back in time to Sardinia’s prehistoric period. The island is scattered with megalithic structures called nuraghi, which have become a symbol of Sardinia. It is believed that the nuraghi were constructed by the Nuragic people, who inhabited Sardinia from the Bronze Age to the second century AD. Despite their ubiquity throughout the Sardinian countryside, not much is known about the purpose of the nuraghi or their creators.
Several nuraghi dot the surroundings of Cagliari offering an interesting cultural and historic excursion. In some cases, it is possible to climb to the top of the nuraghi and admire remarkable panoramas of the island’s renowned natural beauty. In the evening, enjoy dinner in Cagliari before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 06: CAGLIARI, ROME
Take the morning to wrap up your sightseeing in Cagliari or purchase a few souvenirs. In the afternoon, you will travel to Cagliari Airport and board your flight to Rome. Enjoy your final evening in the Eternal City and toast to an unforgettable vacation in one of the most enchanting regions of Italy.
