A grandparent’s eightieth birthday, a golden anniversary, a retirement the whole family flew in for. There is a date and a person at the center, and the itinerary is built around a single evening: a private dinner in the garden of the villa or on a terrace over the sea, with the rest of the week arranged so the honoree sets the pace. The most common and the hardest to pace. Grandparents, several sets of parents and a pack of cousins between three and seventeen. One base for the whole trip, an estate with enough bedrooms for every household and a pool the cousins can live in, a private driver for the day trips, and a schedule where the generations do one thing together in the morning and go their own ways in the afternoon.
For a family scattered across countries, where Italy is chosen because it is a fair flight for everyone and nobody has to host. Households from Texas, New York, London and Sydney arrive on different days, and we stagger the transfers, hold the rooms and plan the first night so that the family sits down together for the first time in years at a table nobody had to set.
Where the brief is simple: somewhere warm, a pool, a coast, room for the children to disappear for hours and a place for the adults to sit. Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia and the Tuscan coast answer it. We find the farmhouse or the villa, arrange the boat day, book a chef for three of the evenings and leave the rest of the week to the family.
Because it can hold everybody at once, which is the real test of a reunion destination. A reunion is a gathering built around a meal, and Italian culture is built around a family at a long table, the hospitality of the countryside, sightseeing that suits every age, the festivities of the one night that matters, and the togetherness and memories the family came for. Then we propose one base, usually an estate in Tuscany, a farmhouse in Puglia, a villa on the Sicilian coast or a set of apartments in one building in Rome, and a first itinerary built in layers: one shared thing each morning, a long lunch, afternoons where households do their own thing, dinner together.
Once the family agrees, every household receives its own booking and pays Trips 2 Italy directly for its own travelers, so the organizer is never the bank.
