Day 01: OUT-BOUND FLIGHT
After boarding your flight, begin your journey to Venice.
Day 02: VENICE
Upon arrival in Venice, meet with your water taxi driver and enjoy a private boat ride down the canals to your centrally located hotel where you will complete the check in process. The rest of your day will be free for you to start familiarizing yourself with Venice’s historical city center. Once you start exploring, you will find that many of Venice’s attractions are within easy walking distance of your hotel. Feel free to wander the historic “calli” (narrow streets) to your heart’s content. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful to spend a few hours, consider stopping by the Giardini Reali (Royal Gardens) next to St. Mark’s Square and unwind amongst the greenery. In the evening, enjoy a romantic, candlelit dinner at a canal-side restaurant. Before returning to your hotel, take a nice stroll through the city center to admire Venice under the moonlight.
Day 03: VENICE
Once you finish breakfast at the hotel, enjoy an informative walking tour of Venice’s city center that covers two of the city’s most important monuments. First, visit the Doge’s Palace where you will learn about Venetian history and tour the former residence of the Doge, the historical ruler of Venice from the 8th century to the 18th century. Admire the Palace’s remarkable interiors as well as the Golden Staircase and frescoes by Tintoretto and Veronese. Afterwards, you will catch a glimpse of the famous Bridge of Sighs before continuing on to St. Mark’s Basilica. Considered to be one of the most beautiful churches in the world, St. Mark’s Basilica is renowned for its unique Byzantine inspired architecture and stunning gold mosaics. After the tour, you will have time at leisure for lunch during which you can unwind and take a moment to fully absorb everything you learned during the tour.
The afternoon will be at leisure for you to continue exploring Venice independently. Depending on your own personal interests, you may wish to visit one of Venice’s museums, such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Alternatively, walk over to the Cannaregio district, one of Venice’s historic neighborhoods, where you can visit artisan workshops and explore an authentic side of Venice. If you wish to take a gondola ride, we suggest planning it for later in the day, around sunset, in order to experience the most romantic views of this enchanting city. Afterwards, enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at a family-owned restaurant before returning to your hotel for a good night’s rest.
Day 04: VENICE
Today you will embark on a boat tour of the Venetian Lagoon and visit two nearby islands that are famous for their unique craftsmanship. The first stop will be the island of Murano, where glass has been made by hand for centuries. Participate in a live glass-blowing demonstration to learn how Murano’s glass, which is famous around the world, is made. Next, visit the charming island of Burano, which is renowned for its lace-making tradition. Stop by a local artisan work shop to learn more and to observe a lace-making demonstration. While on Burano, be sure to take plenty of photos with your spouse; the island’s colorful buildings positioned right along the water provide excellent photo opportunities. Grab a bite to eat before departing Burano and returning to the main Venice Island.
In the afternoon, feel free to continue exploring Venice’s city center at your leisure, perhaps visting another area such as the Rialto Bridge or partaking in souvenir shopping. In the evening, consider stopping by a local bar for an “aperitvo”, where you can taste local wines and cocktails (consider trying an authentic bellini) plus a buffet of assorted small plates. Finish off the evening with a few scoops of gelato from a nearby gelateria then return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 05: VENICE
During your final day in Venice, we suggest spending some time outside of the city to discover a few other jewels of the Veneto region. Meet in the morning and depart for Verona, which has been called The City of Love thanks to its role as the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet . You will have time at leisure to discover the wonders of Verona’s city center including Piazza delle Erbe and the captivating Arena Amphitheater, which was constructed by the Ancient Romans and is still in use today. Enjoy an intimate lunch at a family-owned restaurant in the city center, then head to your next stop: the Valpolicella area, one of Veneto’s renowned wine-producing zones. Take in the beautiful scenery composed of rolling hills and lush greenery and stop by a local winery where you will tour the estate, learn about wine production in the area and enjoy a tasting of local wines. Afterwards, return to Venice where you can freshen up at the hotel before going out for your final dinner—be sure to make a toast to your honeymoon and the bright future ahead of you!
