Sulmona Food & Wine
Sulmona has a rich and historic significance in the origins of many culinary dishes. The variety, breadth and quality of the ingredients, flavors and dishes are astounding. Though Abruzzo remains a place where tradition is honored and forms the basis for all cuisine, respectful innovation allows the "cucina" of this incredibly diverse and naturally stunning region to continue to evolve.
In Sulmona, you will taste creations that are seamless extensions of "la cucina tipica abruzzese". These dishes include “Risotto alla Navallese,” which is the ancestor of the most common “risotto alla Milanese” with saffron and parmigiano. The red garlic of Sulmona grows in the surrounding area and has unique features: red color, big size, large productivity and high content of essential oils. Most famous, is the “Confetti di Sulmona” (sugar coated almonds) which are known in Italy and throughout the world for their ancient tradition. And, of course, there are the wines. The territory of Sulmona is rich in delicious and tasty red and white wines, including the famous Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and the Controguerra.
