Asti History

Asti was once a Roman municipality and was then occupied by the Ostrogoths, Lombards and the Franks and eventually ruled by bishops. It was once pillaged by Fredrick I Barbarossa and was associated with the Savoys, the Angeuins and the Viscontis. In 1575, Emmanuele Filberto was declared the last overlord and the area was ruled by the Savoys.
