If you’re ready for one of the most exciting options on your trip to Italy, our Genoa, San Lorenzo Cathedral and Chiesa del Gusu tour gives you exactly what you want. You’ll explore one of the most exciting cities in the entire nation – Genoa.
You’ll start the tour aboard a motorboat cruising to Santa Magherita. Here, you’ll transfer to a motor coach and enjoy a scenic drive into Genoa itself. You’ll enter the beautiful city through the Porta Soprana, with the twin guard towers soaring on either side of you. Columbus’ house is one of the attractions you’ll walk past, but you’ll also experience the Piazza de Ferrari, the Stock Exchange Building and the Teatro Carlo Felice while travling to the Piazza Matteotti (home of the Ducal Palace and Chiesa del Gesu).
Construction on the Chiesa del Gesu began in 1589, but it was not until 1637 that it was completed. The church features rich frescoes and stunning marble architecture by some of the greatest masters in history. From this point, you’ll head to the Ducal Palace Courtyard, where you’ll explore the historic environs that once housed the republic’s magistracy. The courtyard itself has been turned into a trade area, where you’ll find cafes, restaurants, shops and more.
The tour continues from the palace to the Cathedral di San Lorenzo. The cathedral is located in the heart of old Genoa, and was built in 1118. It features a striking design, using contrasting black slate and white marble throughout. Your guide will point out ancient holy relics, unique features and interesting areas of the cathedral throughout your tour.
The final stop on your tour will be the Piazza Caricamento and the 13th century Palazzo di San Giorgio. Here, you can browse shops or simply rest and relax before the return journey.
This Tour operates Rain or shine.
