Detailed itinerary:

Enjoy a day of history, art and the exquisite Tuscan countryside on this day trip from Florence. We'll pick you up from your hotel, and drive you through the rolling hills and vineyards to historic Lucca. This walled city is home to many beautiful churches, palaces, and piazzas, including the famous Piazza dell’Anfiteatro with its perfect oval shape, and the Piazza Napoleone where the Palazzo Ducale is located, and where you will see traces from the reign of Elisa Baciocchi, sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, who ruled the region in the 19th century. Nearby is the Duomo di San Martino, uniquely constructed with mismatched pillars, said to be the result of an artist's contest during the construction. It's also noted for having the Volto Santo di Lucca, a crucifix carved by Nicodemus, friend of Christ, and thus bears a true image of him. The home of composer Puccini is also nearby, and open to visitors. Another lovely Church worthy a visit is the Romanesque Church of San Frediano. Lunch will be on your own, but your driver will be glad to recommend some lovely local trattorias.
In the afternoon, we'll drive half an hour to Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower. The Piazza dei Miracoli contains the Duomo, a magnificent cathedral, and its connecting Baptistery and of course the famous Leaning Tower. You may also be interested in seeing the Museo del Opera del Duomo, where the artwork of the cathedral is stored, and has a magnifcent view of the Tower, or the Naval Museum. Afterwards, we'll start the journey back to Florence, or, if you would like, we can stop on the way at Vinci, home of Leonardo Da Vinci and an interesting museum dedicated to his works.
In each town, you'll have time to wander as you please, on your own, and use the tidbits that your driver will give on the way to each city. If you would prefer we can also provide a two hour private guided walking tour (not included).
