TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Rome
DAY 01: ROME-NAPLES-POMPEII-SORRENTO
The first day of your journey begins in the romantic city of Rome. A 7:30 A.M. meeting time is established at a designated meeting point in the City Center. Some will be picked up directly between 6:45 and 7:15 A.M. depending on the location of the hotel. The departure from Rome to Naples will be done by coach assisted by a multilingual tour guide. Upon arrival, a walking tour will then commence. The guide will assist you in getting to know the city better and answer any questions that you may have. The attractions will include the San Carlo Opera House, which is one of the oldest working public opera houses in Europe. The Royal Palace may then be visited as it sits directly adjacent to the opera house. This truly captures the essence of Italy with its unique construction and detail to architecture. Other locations that will be seen include the Gallery of Umberto I, and the Piazza del Plebiscito. Once Naples has been toured, a short trip to Pompeii is in order. Here you will be able to see the impressive remains of this ancient city destroyed during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Enjoy the cuisine of this area at a local restaurant, then take a tour of a coral and cameo factory before the group proceeds to Sorrento. This beautiful town located on the Sorrentine Peninsula offers views of majestic crags and the Bay of Naples. Enjoy your first evening in this charming coastal town with dinner at the hotel before the night’s rest.
DAY 02 – SORRENTO-CAPRI-SORRENTO
The second day starts off with a complimentary American style breakfast provided by the hotel, followed by a 9:15 A.M. departure time to the small island of Capri. A ferry will be waiting to take you to the island by way of the Marina Grande. This is the popular port used by the island. Here, a splendid tour of the Blue Grotto will be taken if weather permits. This natural spectacle consists of a variety of underwater caverns that are tinted a beautiful hue of blue by the sun’s rays, making it a favorite attraction among many visitors. The tour will then visit the Augustus Gardens. These plush gardens were established by Friedrich Alfred Krupp, and were built to compliment the natural beauty of the island of Capri. The last stop will be at the famous Piazzetta. With its charming pavement cafes that attract the rich and famous, this lively square is the center of social life in Capri. A minibus will then take you to Anacapri, a small township at the northern tip of the island, and will return you to the Marina Grande for the ferry ride back to the mainland. Relish one more evening with dinner at your Sorrento hotel.
