Pontine Isles Food & Wine
Food (Cibo)
There are plenty of great restaurants on Ponza that feature a mouth-watering variety of dishes based on fresh seafood, and simple and tasty main courses are pleasantly served with a grace distinctive to the island. The excellent traditional cooking includes rich pastas served with shrimp, squid, or clams and delicately seasoned fish caught fresh daily by local fisherman. Enjoy fish soup, spaghetti with langoustines, baked swordfish with potatoes, and prickly pears for dessert.
Enjoy a pasta dish with tiny clams (vongole) cooked with wine, garlic, bits of cherry tomatoes, and parsley atop a bed of linguine. Or, for your main course, enjoy a whole fish roasted with potato slices, onion, and studded with bits tomato.
Not to be missed are the famous green Ventotene lentils, beans, peas, potatoes, and citrus fruits.
Wine (Vino)
Complement your meal with Frascati, one of Italy's most popular white wines, made in the vineyards around the hill town of Frascati and Castelli Romani communities. Or sample Montecompatri which is similar to Frascati.
