Potenza
Potenza lies in the high Basento valley at the midpoint of the road from Salerno to Taranto. It's coast lies on the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas.
It is the highest (819m) regional capital of Italy.
Destroyed by earthquakes in the centuries, Potenza today, thanks to the intersection of an important communications network and an active cultural life as well as its University, has become Basilicata's regional heart.
