Alberobello Food & Wine
Alberobello's food, like the rest of Puglia, is a riot of fresh tastes and colors. Home made pastas and breads mingle with sun-ripened tomatoes, dark purple eggplants and fish straigth from the sea. The richness of the land adds a deeper flavor to the fruits and vegetables, most significantly the olives. The olive oil is richer in color and taste in this region, and wonderful when drizzled on vegetables or bread. Almonds are another promient plant in this region, where they make their way into lasagnas and desserts.
Grapes also grow exceptionally well in the soil, and create complex wines. There are over 25 DOC wines from this region including the red Galatina, and the nearby Castel del Monte.
