Enjoy some of Christianity’s best art and history on our full day tour of the Vatican and historical Christian sites. You’ll see works of the most famous artists and sculptors the world has ever known as you walk through the sacred halls of the Vatican Museum. The Candelabra Gallery, Tapestry Gallery and Map Gallery highlight historical works, while the Raphael Rooms were entirely frescoed by the Master. Be sure to look up in the Sistine Chapel, and view the magnificent work of Michelangelo’s Genesis and Last Judgment. After lunch (included), the tour heads to St. Mary Major Basilica, dedicated to Mary, Mother of Christ, with beautiful mosaics and the relics of the Nativity cradle. We’ll move on to St. John’s in Lateran’s cathedral, which was the first papal residence and home to many medieval masterpieces, and to the Holy Stairs, removed from Pilate’s residence in AD 326 and believed to have been used by Jesus before His crucifixition. The tour continues through the first part of the Ancient Appian Way, with a view of the Domine Quo Vadis Chapel, to the Catacombs. These ancient burial sites were used by Christians and are covered with unique art works. We will visit the Domitilla or the St.Callixtus ones.on the way back we’ll take a panoramic view of the Caracalla Thermal Baths. Return to your hotel or the nearby drop off point.
