Detailed itinerary:
From Sorrento we will travel towards Rome via Castellammare on the motorway. On arrival at our first stop Cassino the coach will bring us the Abbey of Monte Cassino. Enjoy a guided tour of the Abbey and learn about its history. From the foundation in 529BC to the recent World War Two battle in 1944 between the German forces and the Alleys, the Abbey has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. From there you will have also beautiful views over Cassino and the countryside.
Before move to Cassino, we will visit also the Commonwealth War Cemetery where many of the Alleys’ soldiers who fell during the battle are buried here.
Free time for lunch (not included) in Cassino.
After lunch, the tour continues to Caserta to visit the Reggia di Caserta, the Royal Palace of Caserta. This beautiful residence, compared in beauty and splendor to the famous Versailles, is now a Unesco World Heritage Site and was originally built for the Bourbon Royal family. The construction of the Palace began in 1752 and took over 90 years to complete. The Caserta Royal Palace was more recently used as a film location for the movie “Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones”
Enjoy a guided tour of the Palace or if you prefer you can visit the beautiful gardens on your own.
On arrival at Caserta Palace (around 1.45pm) the guide gives a guided tour of the palace for an hour and 30 minutes. Arrival in Sorrento at about 5 pm.
