ITINERARY

Day 1
Arrival on Lake Maggiore and check in to hotel on Stresa. Welcome drink. Breakfast at Hotel. We advise you to go on an excursion this morning to Villa Taranto. The notoriety of its gardens have all around the world, does not exonerate even the hastiest visitor from spending there a couple of hours.Their today's appearance is not natural, but the result, moulded during the years, of an arduous elaboration undertaken by Captain McEacharn in 1931. Coming into the gardens of Villa Taranto is just like making a travel through foreign lands. Back to your Hotel. Welcome dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2
Breakfast at the Hotel and meeting with your local guide. Transfer to the lake pier where'll you take a ferry trip to the Borromee islands to visit either "Isola Bella" and "Isola dei Pescatori". Isola Bella (the beautiful island) is without doubt the most famous of the islands, it is a work of art and a tribute to human genius and seems mounted like a jewel on the mirror of the lake. You are immediately hit by the splendid beauty of Palazzo Borromeo and then immediately afterwards by its marvellous Italian style garden built over ten terraces that slope down to the edge of the lake and which tries to hide its real beauty; it is difficult to know which of these two things most impresses the visitor, most probably it is a mixture of both; admirably linked in a triumph of Baroque style which can win over the emotions of even the most least interested visitor. Isola dei Pescatori (the island of the fisherman) is the smallest but certainly not the least fascinating of the Borromee Islands, you are immediately met by its ancient alleys, its typical restaurants and the unexpected glimpses of scenery which appear and disappear all of a sudden both delighting and taking by surprise its visitors who animate its narrow cobbled stone streets and steep flights of stairs. Back to Stresa for lunch time on your own. We suggest to spend the afternoon in this lovely town, having a stop in one of the many "patisseries" to taste the traditional "Margheritine" (little daisies), delicious cakes created for Queen Margherita di Savoia during her visit to Stresa. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

Day 3
Breakfast at hotel. In this day we want to suggest you a very interesting and independent excursion in the lake Maggiore area. Take the train from Stresa to Domodossola railway station and departure on a characteristic train locally known as the "Centovalli" (100 valleys), for an extremely pleasant experience that lasts an hour and a half and journeys through the Vigezzo valley and many other picturesque valleys. You go past amazing precipices, you can almost touch the spectacular waterfalls, you go past multicolour fields and daring bridges, through vineyards and chestnut tree forests, a comfortable journey through an unforgettable, fascinating and varied itinerary. The train journey ends at Locarno, and after a short walk in the centre of this nice Swiss town, you'll catch the ferry boat on Lake Maggiore back to Stresa. The ferry trip from Locarno to Stresa is full of splendid views that will complete an ideal day's trip. Return to hotel and overnight stay.

Day 4
Breakfast at the Hotel. Check out and end of your stay. We suggest you an extension to Lake Como matching our package "A taste of Lake Como".
