SportsThe Piedmont area is a wonderful ski region. Recommended slopes include: Sestriere, Alagna Valsesia or Macugnaga. Sestriere is about little over an hour away from Turin and is the home of Italian ski legend Alberto Tomba. Algagna Valsesia and Macugnaga are only slightly further away and all can be reached through bus service leaving from Turin.
Biking and hikingFavorite hiking trails in the Turin area include the Monte Rosa Animal Reserve and Mount Mombarone.Monte Rosa Animal ReserveThis laid back three hour walk will guide you through a path of picturesque natural beauty. Along the way, travelers are sure to spot mountain wildlife such as sheep, deer, beaver and eagles. Mount MombaroneThis mountain hike is well worth the effort, climbers will be rewarded with an excellent view that stretches across the Alpi Mrittime to Monte Rosa and beyond the Po River. Hiking the Lakes of PiedmontHiking the lakes is an all day event and begins at Chialamberto, hikers will enjoy the spectacular views of this journey. The Sesia ValleyThis well preserved mountain village offers protected trails originating in the village of Rima. There is also a dirt bike path here that stretches for about 10 miles. This trail will take you all the way to the summit of Alpe Meggiana, where there is a mountain hut offering traveler’s plenty of drinking water.
