Sport and leisure

Molise is a natural oasis where one can relax and enjoy the local life, spending some days in the many farmhouses or trekking in the mountains. There also many natural sites to visit, such as WWF oasis, the Rosello Falls, the Rio Verde sources, the Montedimezzo’s woods and the UNESCO Biosphere reserve with wild boars, weasels, squirrels and owls. Thanks to the short coastline on the Adriatic Sea it is possible to practice all kind of water sports.

Sepino, an ancient site, is famous also for its thermal waters, good for the treatment of the back.

Handicraft

Like in the gastronomy and the festivals, the Molise’s population preserves also the ancient traditional handicraft. Everywhere there is a flourishing handicraft activity and in particular the artistic one, such as precious items made with drilling steel in Campobasso, Vinchiaturo and Bojano, others in stone in Guardiaregia, Oratino and S. Croce di Magliano, and in leather and wrought iron in Campobasso.

There is also the Tiana, a typical terracotta pot, used for cooking everything.

The liqueurs are homemade with an aromatic herb: the Biferno and the Matese, while the Milk (the original name) is made with milk and the poncio with toasted sugar.  The Nocino is produced with fresh walnuts and is an excellent digestive.

During these festivals it is also possible to admire the old traditional costumes and to listen to the popular songs, called the Carresi or Laudate.

Other important events are the festivals dedicated to the typical food and earth products.

There is, in fact, a festival dedicated to mutton dishes, known as the sagra della pezzata di Capracotta. This is celebrated every year on the first or second Sunday of August at Capracotta, in the province of Isernia. It is the most characteristic gastronomic festival of the region and it attracts a large public. While many folk music groups entertain
