Food (Cibo)

Innovative dishes are waiting for you in Ravenna. The distinctive flavors of Ravennese salt, extra virgin olive oil, and chestnuts characterize Ravenna’s hearty cuisine. You’ll find vegetable/pastry concoctions, such as pigeon or other combinations. Mixed antipasti will vary according the season, but sample tortellacci, stuffed with herbs and served with mascarpone and pine nuts. Or try the minestrone flavored with truffles, octopus stewed with balsamic vinegar and served with arugula and cannelloni beans.

Discover tortellaci di ortica (pasta stuffed with cheese and served with fish and tomatoes), or piadine (hot, triangular pieces of flatbread) dipped nacho-style in melted squaquerone, a mild cheese local to the region.

When in season, enjoy these delicacies: quince honey, medlar tree fruits, or volpine pears. You can enjoy them fresh or in dessert dishes. Sample zuppa inglese, a combination of cookies and custard enlivened with a splash of cordial, or the nougat semifreddo with chocolate sauce.

Wine (Vino)

The plains of the Po basin between Ferrara and Ravenna are noted for are noted for fruit, vegetables, and ultra productive vines, most of which are sources of blending wines. Accompany a filling meal with a full-bodied Albana or Trebbiano wine.
